We've been doing Eastern Market tours for 15 years and it's still a fan favorite!
Delish Detroit will stroll from shed to shed and visit specialty stores to learn about unique products, hear fun facts and history of the area, while going behind the scenes and sampling various foods. Enjoy eating locally produced pizza, popcorn, pickles and pastries; specialty sausages and cheeses; authentic spinach pies and spreads, seasonal nibbles & treats, and more! We'll get to know local growers and vendors, and taste their grown- and made-in-Michigan foods. We'll be exploring the stunning art murals in the Market along our way, many of which were created during the last two Mural Festivals, and we will also visit an art gallery, jazz club and/or a letterpress shop. Dress for the weather; we will be inside several shops and in the market sheds on our tour, as well as walking outdoors.
Find seasonal fruits, vegetables, and decor, while eating your way through the market!
We are pleased to be donating $1 from the sale of each Eastern Market tour ticket to Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan! Every dollar buys 3 meals for struggling families in our local community.

** Our public art tour dates have concluded for the season, however we are available year-round for private, customized art tours. Call us for details and dates, and take your own private tour of the murals! **
Our focus will be on the murals, but we want our guests to see them in a greater context, so you will also learn a bit about the rich history of Detroit's Eastern Market District, as well as current development, the local food movement, community, and the vibrant arts & music scene.
On this tour, stroll to experience numerous brand-new murals, the realization of the annual Festival's vision. What is Murals in the Market?
DETROIT'S 2nd ANNUAL MURALS IN THE MARKET FESTIVAL
September 21 -28, 2017
Public art has long been an integral part of the Eastern Market experience. It's this legacy that Murals in the Market aims to build upon by inviting over 50 world-class local and international artists to paint large-scale murals throughout the District for the third year in a row. The artists will be painting live throughout the District over the course of eight days in the City's only international mural festival. Murals in the Market is a magnificent public arts festival curated by 1xRUN and the company's fine art gallery Inner State, and supported by the William Davidson Foundation, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the Eastern Market Corporation, and other sponsors.
With this diverse group of artists from around the world, Murals in the Market will add to Detroit's unique history of place making and public art, further enhancing the market experience and continuing the reputation of the market district as a must-see destination.
For more information about Murals in the Market, visit their website.
We at Feet on the Street along with Stephanie Appel of Core Learning, Inc. are pleased to offer tours for Social Workers. These workshops are bus tour/continuing education programs where participants will step out of a "classroom" and onto a bus to visit sites and hear from presenters who will address issues facing Detroit and the Metropolitan Region. Through these experiential learning opportunities, participants will learn more about critical and current issues, such as: food issues, diversity, ethnic and cultural traditions, land use, transportation, area history, local programs and services, blight removal and rehab efforts. Please note, these programs are open to anyone interested in the topic.
